Zhu has an extensive background in designing and developing cardiovascular medical products during his ten year career at Guidant Corporation (NYSE:GDT). Zhu's most recent role at Guidant was as Program Manager of Dedicated Research. In that role, Zhu was responsible for long range strategic planning and the development of emerging device solutions for the treatment of heart failure. Zhu served in numerous other roles at Guidant, including as the Research Manager for Emerging Technology and as the Group Leader of Heart Failure Sensor Applications.
Zhu has invented or co-invented close to 100 device-based medical solutions, with 27 patented in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, 43 applications published, and 30 other applications currently pending. Zhu invented the automatic capture pacemaker function that is currently being marketed worldwide in Guidant's most advanced pacemaker device called Insignia™. Zhu also participated in the late stage research development and market launch of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy, one of the fastest adopted medical device therapies in the world.
